The new Atom Cedar Trail delayed by DirectX?

The PowerVR circuit chosen by Intel for its new Atom platform would pose it serious problems to pilots because the DirectX 10.1 support.

It is not the Cedar Trail platform, expected to boost the interest of the Atom processors which will be engraved in 32 nm and embarqueront a PowerVR graphics circuit. What, for Intel, try to come back in the race to the APU Brazos of rival AMD. On the graphic part, Intel has decided to separate his old - and very few performance - GMA 3150 for the benefit of a PowerVR SGX545 circuit. The latter found in certain ARM tablets, is compatible DirectX 10.1. But problem, if according to the information obtained by Digitimes, this compatibility is not optimal and currently pose real problems at Intel who have choice to delay the release of its new platform.

Indeed, the graphics drivers fail to be validated by Microsoft with respect to the Windows 7 operating system, which is more than a hassle. It is not impossible to see Intel move out of Cedar Trail in November. Not to mention the concessions that the caster is going to do, since there is talk of a limitation of the pilots the 32-bit for the launch, and restricted to DirectX 9 compatibility. Necessarily, it's chaos and if this is really the case, Cedar Trail could lose part of its interest, especially among the manufacturers of netbooks which will no doubt appreciate such restrictions. 64-Bit compatible DirectX 10.1 drivers could arrive to many weeks later. Follow.

Roccat Isku: super keyboard delayed to September

The German manufacturer Roccat relaunches its last keyboard players. The Isku is now expected in September.

Roccat took advantage of the CeBIT 2011 to unveil its new keyboard player. The Isku was originally land in shops during the second quarter. This solution has been delayed, and the German manufacturer now provides an effective availability for the month of September. This USB keyboard has a cable of 2 m, which does not preclude display an "extreme" 1 000 Hz reactivity. EasyShift [+] technology allows to create three areas (or groups of keys) separate. There are also twenty key EasyZone on 123 in this keyboard.

The Isku authorizes the creation of not less than 36 macros using only keys W, S, A, and D. Also note the presence of 8 multimedia keys. Roccat Talk technology to link this keyboard with a mouse (Kone [+] only at present), to improve the gaming experience a little more. The Isku can be illuminated, six levels of backlight being proposed. This will facilitate its use in particularly dark environments (LAN party, etc.). Roccat had to recall announced its Isku public price recommended 79.99 euros. We are already in the back to provide you a test of this Isku out...

CPU AMD FX Zambezi would still delayed

Image : Donanim Haber

Zambezi of AMD processors, using the Bulldozer architecture, would be further delayed according to documents published on the site DonanimHaber. Four Zambezi were originally planned for the months of September and four the following month. AMD have finally decided to leave the eight at the same time. The launch will take place a month later than expected and anticipated especially the years holiday. This leak comes therefore complete as of last June (see "The Zambezi-FX AMD roadmap on the run") from the same site which had the merit of revealing the features of the Llano. In addition to confirm the names of the processors and the TDP announced last month, the present document brings operating frequencies and the size of caches. If this information is verified, the only unknown will remain price and performance. The technical characteristics are presented in a table at the bottom of this news. You should also know that processors are engraved in 32 nm SOI. For memory, the self is a technology developed by French SOITEC which place a layer of insulation between two layers of silicon to reduce leakage currents. According to information collected by DonanimHaber, AMD processors would be stepping B2. The firm would have corrected the performance problems of B0 and B1 steppings that would be the source of many delays. Finally, the same site had his hands a processor AMD FX-8130P, a prototype running at 3.2 GHz and having a Turbo to 3.7 GHz frequency when eight cores are enabled. If only four of them are active, the frequency may rise to 4.2 GHz. Editors have obviously launched a series of benchmarks, but inadequate testing protocols do not draw conclusions on the new architecture. Indeed, they have for example used Cinebench R10 and SuperPi. The first is unnecessary on a processor using more than four cores and the second is a single application thread that does not derive advantage of all of the smart. Fritz Chess shows he improved by 23% from Thuban processor, which is normal since the Bulldozer integrates two cores and more.Donanim Haber has since withdrawn its website testing. It is not the first benchmarks to appear on the canvas (see "A CPU AMD Zambezi pushed 4.6 GHz"). Unfortunately, it is impossible to be an opinion on the issue. The Zambezi, according to early estimates, should reach the level of the Sandy Bridge. Must nevertheless await final flea market and the publication of the tariff policy of AMD to make a real opinion on this architecture that is supposed to replace the Green Giant in the race for performance.
