Very good results for Free which prepares the arrival of Free Mobile and attack Numericable

Small point encrypted on the progress made by Free on the past semester. If the ISP who recruits the most, Free account not stop in so good way...

Freebox Revolution V6

After bad LICO figures yesterday, it is the turn for Free to the point on his first six months of activity. And in the troublemaker of the Internet, all is well. Indeed, the ISP displays a record recruitment rate, far exceeding that of its competitors. If SFR attirué 96 000 new clients for its offers Web, that Orange has drawn 164 000 and Bouygues Telecom has 215,000 new entrants, Free parade with 231 000 new subscribers on the first six months of the year. Which still represents 36% of its sales. For sure, its Revolution offer attracts surfers, allowing Free to count a total of 4,245 million customers (and 4.7 million with Alice subscribers), 4.9 million SFR. The gap is reduced more and more. What "credible" the ambition of Free of "double in size by 2015", explains Thomas Raynaud, Chief Financial Officer, to the Reuters news agency. Of course, in the meantime, Free Mobile will was launched.

Free Mobile that the Iliad group obviously has the means to finance, despite its reluctance to pay with a 4 G licence. Indeed, semi-annual turnover was 2.6% at 1.04 billion, when the benefit net is of EUR 145 million, up 8% on a year. In addition, Free took advantage of the presentation of its results to let know that 3.6 million taken very high speed (understanding optical fiber, FTTH) are deployed or being deployed. About Free Mobile, the project today is 3 500 people mobilized, Free as in more than 100 corporate partners, including suppliers and subcontractors. And to those who think that Free Mobile will not be able to decide prices also strongly than expected, since competitors took the measure of his arrival by lowering overall tariffs, the Financial Director responded that according to Free, the France mobile market is always the same, "prices are still high".

Finally, let's finish by sliding a little word on the dispute between Free and Numericable around the term "Revolution". Remember no doubt that a few months ago, a mysterious operator promised "The Mobile revolution" and that it is ultimately of Numericable who had launched an "unlimited" offer. And although Free believes to be owner of the term "Revolution" he largely tied to its brand, as well to the public for the press. Thus, PCInpact says that the Iliad group was assigned to justice Numericable and claimed 10 million euros in damages and compensation for damage to its image and reputation. And for the relief of harm "constituted by the diversion of its image and the weakening of his own advertising and commercial efforts". Confusion with Numericable voluntarily played as Free, which probably exaggerates a little by explaining that "38 million of advertising investments were thrown at the window".

AMD announces average results for Q2

The California firm AMD has presented its results for the second quarter of 2011, positive, but without more.

Logo AMD Fusion

AMD has not surprised with the results of the second quarter of 2011. Sunnyvale firm displays a turnover of 1.57 billion, down 2% from the previous quarter, and 5% from last year. The benefits reach to $ 61 million, compared to 510 million in the first quarter, but also to the 43 million of losses in 2010. The average margin of the California company was 46 per cent these past three months.

AMD drops slightly as well for sales of CPU and GPU. In return, the launch of the new society APU is rather well spent. Logically, the CA for the third quarter should be on the rise (it refers to 10%). Expected now obviously looking forward to the launch of the processors from the new nm Bulldozer, to see what will be their impact on the finances of AMD!

Poor results for Nokia

The Finnish giant Nokia publishes very bad results and remains in a negative spiral. Before escape from its Windows Phone?

Nokia yesterday presented its results for the second quarter of 2011. The Finnish firm displays a turnover of 9,275 billion euros. This is a decrease of 7% over the past year, and 11% from the previous quarter.

The giant of Espoo has elapsed 88.5 million mobile phones, representing a decrease of 20% from the second quarter of 2010. It is however on the smartphones that figures are the worst, with a sequential decline of 31% and 34% from Q2 of last year.

Stephen Elop, President of Nokia, attempts to limit the case stating that the actions taken in this disastrous quarter began to have a positive impact "on the health of the company". We hope for the company that the launch of its first Windows Phone is more too-distant...

Microsoft publishes good results

Microsoft is in the form. The software giant has generated more than $ 17 billion in sales over the past three months, for a little less 6 billion profit!

Logo Microsoft

Microsoft has released the results of its fourth fiscal quarter 2011 (closed June 30). Over this period, the turnover of the software giant has reached 17,37 billion, + 8% in one year.

The benefits of the Seattle company is progressing to 30%, to $ 5.87 billion. Almost all of the divisions of Microsoft are better than in 2010. The CA of the Entertainment & Devices (Xbox, Windows Phone) group rose by 30%, and $ 1.5 billion. There are also 17% of sales in addition to the Online Services (such as Bing and MSN), with $ 662 million. This division displays however abyssal loss that accumulate to about 6.5 billion over the past three years!

The Server & Tools unit is an increase of 12%, with 4.6 billion, while the (Agency) Business division 7% more, and represents the heart of the activity of Microsoft with turnover $ 5.8 billion! Only black point, the recoil of a small little less than 1% of the Windows & Windows Live group that generates all the same 4.7 billion in CA. Microsoft ends its fiscal year 2011 with a total turnover of 69,94 billion (an increase of 12% over the previous year) and of the benefits of 23.15 billion (+ 23% from 2010).

Intel publishes very good results and think of the 7 nm

Intel has released its financial results for the second quarter of this year and the figures are very encouraging. He announced a record turnover of 13.1 billion (CA. 9 billion euros), i.e. an increase of 22% over last year, and an income of 3.2 billion (CA. 2 billion euros), an increase of 10%. The skier has also reported its weaknesses and its plans for the future. If the turnover increases by 2% from the present quarter, profits fell 3%, which is relatively good sign that the second quarter is generally slower than the first. These figures are all the more remarkable that IDC study shows that PC demand increased by 2.6% over 2010.The decline in profits can also be explained in part by the fact that the caster has spent 2 billion (CA. 1.5 billion euros) to buy 93 million of its shares. In addition, Intel saw revenues from its Atom down 15% from one year to another, unlike the sales of components for data centers that grew by 15%. These figures reflect many of the new trend of 2011 where computer business park is renewed and strong growth in data centers is linked in large part to the democratization of the clouds. Netbooks are much less popular and Intel relies on its next Atom for smartphones and tablets to better compete with ARM in these emerging markets (cf. "States smartphones in 2011").

Intel also announced that it would increase its investment in factories and machines. He has spend 16.2 billion (approx. 11.4 billion euros) this year instead of 15.7 billion earlier (CA. € 11 billion). These funds will be used to update the smelters to burn 14 nm and begin to prepare the 10 nm and the 7 nm. For the record, the Sandy Bridge marketed today are engraved in 32 nm and Intel should get its first processors in 22 nm in the second quarter of next year (cf. "Ivy Bridge delayed to April 2012"). Intel has promised that he would be "soon" in the "purchase cycle" of equipment needed to burn 14 nm and it ensures that the 22 nm is on track.Intel will also invest half a billion dollars (CA. 350 million euros) in research on processors x 86 that can compete with ARM on tablets and fine ultras computers, a market that English hopes begin to penetrate in 2015. It should take more extensively on this subject at the Intel Developer Forum to be held in September.
