ARM: two generations of graphics processors arrive

ARM provides two new chips Mali to address different markets, a pay strategy for British society?

Processors: two Llano released, four Celeron and a Pentium

Small update on the new upcoming processors AMD and Intel. Step revolution in sight, but slight changes favourable to the consumer.

AMD and Intel have both announce new processors. Among the Greens, it discovers two new Llano APU, the A8-3870K and A6-3670K. Intel renews certain mobile processors

Intel updates four of its mobile chips, revising upward their operating frequencies.

Intel will introduce four new standards in its line of mobile processors. The new Pentium 967 is probably the most interesting, since it will attempt to compete with some APU "E Series" AMD (Brazos platform). It replaces the Pentium 957, with a rate review for the dual-core low power consumption of 1.2 to 1.3 GHz and 800 MHz to 1 GHz for the graphics Intel HD. A processor with 2 MB cache, which has a TDP of only 17 W.

It also hosts the Pentium B960 B950 which replaces a dual-core with 2 MB cache, the frequency increases to 2.2 GHz while the GPU does not move (between 650 MHz and 1.1 GHz), all for a TDP of 35 W. While the Core i5 and i7-2430M-2670QM replace the previous models, respectively, by winning a coefficient (2.4 GHz and 3 GHz Turbo) and two coefficients (2.2 to 3.1 GHz). They still have 3 and 6 MB of cache and the Intel HD 3000 for graphics.

Now expected that Intel Announces Pricing of these "new" chip and integrates its listing for the manufacturers to incorporate them into their laptops.


 

Intel: processors K soon to retire?

Intel has just tell us when he had to retire three of these socket LGA-1156 processors launched last year...

Intel has just announced the date of retirement of three processors launched last year. If the Core i7-760 was nothing fantastic, the Core i5 - 655 K and i7 - 875 K were clearly more notable. It was indeed the first CPU of the giant Santa Clara supporting overclocking via the multiplier coefficients, the latter being free climb and descent.


These two references had been preceded by the Pentium E6500K, which had been launched in the summer 2009 in China. We can always order the Core i5 - 655 K, i7-760 and i7 - 875 K to 24 February 2012. Intel will last copies of these three solutions that deliver 10 August 2012. The Ivy Bridge will be launched for several months, in any case, hopefully...

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition

If there was any doubt in your mind that the core race hasn't cooled off, then the temporal proximity of AlvID's Thuban-based hexa-core launch and that of Intel's Core i7- 980X Extreme Edition should settle me matter. Based on the price of the Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition, you might deduce mat AlvID minks a six-core processor is for everyone. The socket AlvI3 chip features a 3.2GHz core fre­quency, integrated memory controller that supportS up to dual-channel DDR2- 1066 and DD R3-1600 memory, 512KB of L2 cache per core, 6MB shared L3 cache, and a 125WTDP.

AlvID also launched its 890FX chipset, which, together with the Phenom II X6 1090T, composes the Leo platform. The chipset supports HyperTransporr 3.0, SATA 6GBps, 32 PCI-E 2.0 lanes for graphics (two x 16 slots or four x8 slots), six x l lanes, and one x4 lane for peripher­als on me northbridge, and another two PCI-E lanes on the southbridge. The 890FX doesn't suPPOrt USB 3.0 natively, bur if the MSI 890FXA-GD70 is any indication, chips from Marvell or NEC will likely appear on 890FX boards and put those extra PCI-E lanes on the south­bridge to good use.

 

 

Turbo CORE

AfD's six-core dynamo in conjunction with any AlvI3 motherboard is capable of 

increasing the frequency available to three cores when running applications that don't scale well in parallel. Like Intel's Turbo Boost, Turbo CORE automatical­ly tells the underurilized cores to go idle while boosting the remaining cores' fre­quencies (to within the listed TDP) to process the poorly parallelized tasks more quickly. For the Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition, frequencies on the three running cores can max out at 3.6GHz. Bur, as a Black Edition processor, you can overclock the CPU to achieve me same results (or better). AlvID's OverDrive util­ity also lets you tweak the Turbo CORE,

i ncl using the number of cores to utilize and the clock frequency.

The Bottom Line

The difference between AMD's six-core and Intel's is night and day. But AlvID knows it and has priced the Phenom II X6 I090T Black Edition accordingly. Extreme mulritaskers and content creators who typ­ically run highly parallelized tasks, such as decoding, encoding, rendering, and image editing, will see real benefits here. With nonparallel tasks, Turbo CORE lends a hand on par wirh a healthy overclock. It's good to see mat A1vlD (like Intel before it) recognizes that throwing more cores at the software isn't the only answer, and we're happy to see the answer can be ours for comparatively lirde pocket change.

Intel Core i7 –970

 

Until very recently, if you wanted a six­core Intel desktop processor, you had only one speed bin and model to choose from: the pricey 3.33GHz Core i7-980X Extreme Edition. However, in the past couple of months, Intel decided to intro­duce a slightly more affordable six-core chip, the Core i7-970.

This new hexa-core beast, like the 980X, is built on Intel's new 32nm process and clocks in not so far behind at 3.2GHz. Its top Turbo Boost speed is 3.46GHz, compared to the 980X's 3.6GHz, and its QPI link speed is set to 4.8GTps vs. 6.4GTps for the 980X, the latter of which won't hamper performance much, if at all. The 970 also has 12MB of shared L3 cache, just like its more expen­sive six-core sibling. Built with Intel Hyper-Threading technology, the chip is able to offer 12 threads of processing resources to the OS.

Also like the previous Core i7 six-core release, this chip will drop into existing Socket LGA1366 motherboards, though you might need to grab the latest BIOS update to support the new chip microcode. From a performance standpoint, for single­or lightly threaded workloads, the Core i7­970 lines up slightly behind a quad-core Core i7-975. However, in multithreaded applications that make use of the chip's extra cores, the Core i7-970 is up to 50% faster than its nearest quad-core counterpart and within about 5 to 7% of the 980X.

The Core i7-970 doesn't carry such an extreme price, retailing around $885, mak­ing it a great "budget" chip if you want six cores of Intel processing power .
