The Trinity of AMD APUs: 29% faster CPU, 56% to the GPU...

A document from AMD provides guidance on earnings to the new generation of APUs...

On one of the pages of a document AMD marketing piochée at SweClockers, found some arguments put forward by the caster to praise new APUs of the Trinity range, which will be replace the generation Llano. Found therefore that, according to AMD, the APUs Trinity is average 29% more efficient in productivity (and therefore on the CPU part) are the Llano. Better, the graphical part of these processors would be 56% more efficient than the already rather convincing, chips of the previous generation. Tests carried out on pre-series processors appear to confirm these performance gains.

AMD Trinity Slide

Still on this document, it if dig than AMD highlights as an optimization for Windows 8 (with technologies such as AVX, AES-NI, SSE 4.2 and DirectX 11.1), and auto-overclocking of third-generation technology, the Turbo Core 3.0. Also, the mobile versions of these processors would be designed to offer up to 12 hours of autonomy which would be equipped with portable computers. Under what conditions and with what battery/configurations? It, is unknown. It remains only to wait for these new APUs for a test in good and due form, and this before the month of July if everything goes as planned.

Dell: storage arrays EqualLogic faster

Dell EqualLogic PS4100

It is now several years that Dell has initiated a diversification of its activities, focusing on the enterprise storage market. Giant has thus carried out two strategic buyouts in the middle of 2008 with EqualLogic data storage and Compellent in 2009. More recently, Ocarina Networks and are Exanet which were acquired by Dell.

Consistent with this strategy, the constructor has therefore presented two new SAN, the PS4100 and PS6100bays. These two products after another the previous PS4000 and PS6000 iSCSI SAN. Supporting hard drives and SSDS format 2.5 inch and 3.5-inch (SATA 7200tpm, SAS 10000/15000tpm), these new EqualLogic Arrays double the density of storage over the previous generation.

The PS4100 is thus available in configuration 2U, with storage capacity up to 21.6 To with disks of 2.5 inches and 36 To with 3.5-inch hard drives. The EqualLogic PS6100 Bay can in turn be delivered in configuration 2U or 4U, for a maximum capacity of 72 To. Network access is given to Gigabit Ethernet links. Side tariff, the PS4100 is available from 6895 euros, while the PS6100 is displayed from 22065 euros. Yes, we speak here of professional storage solutions...

These two iSCSI SAN arrays are also supplied with version 5.1 of the Dell EqualLogic firmware. It, according to Travis Vigil (Executive Director of the storage at Dell), significantly improves the performance of the new arrays from the "old". According to an internal test performed by Dell, the IOPS performance would be so improved 60%.

This update is also compatible with VSphere 5, the constructor who particularly cared for the integration of these new products with VMWare virtualization solutions. Several tools (EqualLogic Host Integration Tools for VMware 3.1, Compellent Storage Replication Adapter for vCenter SRM 5.0 or PowerVault Integration with VMware vCenter 5.0) should also see agenda here the end of the year. It must be said that 90% of users of Dell storage solutions use virtualization, and among them 80% chose a solution VMWare… Dell did not forget Microsoft with the arrival of new tools improving the integration of bays EqualLogic with Microsoft Hyper-V (Dell EqualLogic SAN Headquarters 2.2) and Dell EqualLogic Host Integration Tools for Microsoft 4.0.

In summary, Dell appears particularly confident for the future of the enterprise storage market. The constructor has also just strengthen the workforce of its stockage… division

Sandy Bridge-E, the I7-3960X would be 47% faster than the I7 - 990 X

Two charts published by the Donanimhaber.com site reveal the performance of the model of the future Sandy Bridge-E platform.Sandy Bridge-E will be the next round of top processors range from Intel using the new socket LGA-2011 from replace the set of processors on socket LGA-1366 for call back.

Currently high-end consists therefore of the I7-990 X EE (Extreme Edition). It is composed of six hearts with the support of the Hyper-Threading, or twelve Threads. He is running at 3.460 Mhz and monte 3.730 Mhz in Turbo Mode supported by 12 MB L3 cache. The memory controller manages the DDR3 on three channels at a frequency of 1066 Mhz. All for a TDP of 130 Watts. The leak is the I7-3960X EE (Extreme Edition). It will be with respect to him composed of six hearts with the support of the Hyper-Threading or twelve Threads also. He will be running at 3,300 Mhz and will rise to 3.900 Mhz mode Turbo, or nearly 4 GHZ! Backed up by a 15 MB L3 cache. The memory controller always bear the DDR3 but on four channels at a frequency of 1333 Mhz. The HRT will be the same or 130 Watts.
Tests on the first chart show that on Cinebench 11.5 the I7-3960X EE would be 13% more efficient than the I7-990 X, 12% more efficient on POV - Ray 3.7, 36% on the physics of 3D Mark 11 test score and finally 15% better on ProShow 4.5.The second graph shows a growth of 34% in Integer and 65% in decimal floating on SPEC CPU 2006, which measures the bandwidth memory.

It also shows that on the AVX instruction set tested by Sandra 2011 benchmark performance would be an increase of 92% in multimedia.
Regarding bandwidth memory, Sandra 2011 view Quad-Channel 111% higher performance than the Triple-Channel.The average of all these gains represent 47.25% of additional performance.

Still waiting for the end of the year, there was more than expected temperatures to warm us up with some less synthetic benchmarks, and see what would be the daily earnings.
