Intel mentioned its Itaniums at a recent Conference. PAS new technical details, but the interesting information about the improvements of the new architecture.
The Hotchips Conference, Intel has unveiled a few new details about its next generation of processors called "Itanium" (code name: Poulson). Among info confirmed, and already known, talking about 8 hearts and 3.1 billion transistors for a fineness of engraving of 32 nm.
But Intel also addressed three key points that will be improved. At the level of the architecture, the Intel Instruction Reply will be able to correct errors running in real time in the pipeline. Hyper-Threading will be also improved to allow an independent entry and exit of the pipeline for a multi-tasking better compartmentalized. And new operations will be possible, whether it is to deal with integers or have new options for control over the hearts of execution, to ensure the evolution of the Itanium architecture-based on the long term.
Note that the Intel Itanium are not expected before 2012.
