As usual, Western Digital unveils its results in the wake of the announcement of Seagate. The American manufacturer has passed 54 million hard drives for its fourth fiscal quarter 2011 (closed July 1), or 2 million more than Seagate. WD displays a turnover of $ 2.40 billion, compared to the $ 2.25 billion the previous quarter, and the 2.38 billion last year.

The benefits of the company are $ 158 million, a small sequential progression (146 million to Q3 2011) but a large down from Q4 2010, when profits were 265 million. It should however be noted that these figures include an expenditure of $ 35 million following the acquisition of the Japanese giant Hitachi GST division.

Western Digital releases 9.53 billion dollars for all of its fiscal year and profits of $ 726 million (in comparison to 9,85 CA billion and 1.38 billion of benefits of 2010). The manufacturer therefore retains its position as world number one of the hard drives, that he should sit in a little more when its merger with Hitachi will be concluded. Unless Seagate fusion with the Samsung drives division does change the deal in the future?
