Apple is the fourth seller of phones

Apple becomes the fourth manufacturer of telephones.

If Apple is the first seller of smartphones in the world, it is also the fourth seller of phones, all types combined. According to a study by Gartner, the Cupertino firm now captures 4.6% of the market through its 19.6 million iPhone elapsed in the second quarter of 2011, an increase of sales of 92% from the second quarter of 2010. At the top of the pyramid, there always are Nokia, which is still the undisputed market leader of telephony in terms of volume with almost 98 million phones sold in the same period, it simply is 22.8% of the market, but it is also much less the year while the same period last. Indeed, in 2010, Nokia had passed 111 million phones and were 30.3% of market share.

In the second and third position, Samsung and LG capture respectively 16.3 and 5.7% of market share with 69.8 to 24.4 million phones sold. Over the previous year, Samsung has lost a bit of ground with a drop of 1.5 points while LG has increased by 2.3 points market share.

At the level of the operating systems on smartphones, Android is now the leader with 43.4% share of market in Symbian and iOS with respectively 22.1 and 18.2%. Symbian is impressive since the Nokia system still received 40.9% of the market last year, is a market share of almost halved over a year. Android is the reverse by more that doubled its market share then as Apple iOS won 4.1 points over a year. You will also notice that if Apple is the largest seller of smartphones in the world, it is greatly exceeded by Android when it combines all the smartphones Google sold by HTC, Samsung, Sony and others.
