The Apacer Taiwanese manufacturer has just announced a new DDR3 DIMM for 16 GB servers...
Apacer is to unveil a new module of RAM for servers. This bar of DDR3 offers a capacity of 16 GB. It operates at 1333 MHz, displays latencies 9-9-9 and requires a nominal voltage of 1.35 volt. This module is type LRDIMM, a technology which allows to increase capacity without increasing the load on the memory bus (Apacer mentions a reduction of 50% from a dual-rank DIMM, and 75% from a quad-rank).
However, the presence of a cache memory increases the cost. We also note the presence of a sink in aluminium (painted black). The Taiwanese manufacturer says validated its solution on the recent AMD and Intel platforms. It remains to know when and how many Apacer account start this bar.
