New 2.5 inch Samsung of the, 1 TB HDD for notebooks has two trays of 500 GB each.
Wednesday evening, Samsung revealed its new 2.5 inch Spinpoint M8 internal HDD for notebooks which consists of two 500 GB drives for a total of 1 TB of storage space. Previous 1 TB Spinpoint MT2 5200RPM disc released in July 2010 features three plateaus at each 333 GB.
According to Samsung, the high density was obtained by using the advanced technology (rear) that triggers the stocking density of data per unit area, allowing the "data storage effective and practical." The overall structure of hard disk, measuring just 9.5 mm thick, was also redesigned with a reduced number of components such as disk drives and heads, and generates a 7% increase in speed of operation and the decline of 8% of the demand of top power predecessor.
"The new Spinpoint M8 line-up supports the continued growth of high density data storage density curve, especially as it raises the bar to exceed the levels of density terabyte in the mobile computing space," said C.H. Lee of Samsung, Vice President of strategic marketing for storage.
Spinpoint M8 connects via a SATA 3Gbps interface and comes packed with a 8 MB buffer memory. Samsung has also incorporated EcoSeek and NoiseGuard functions for minimal noise levels. The redesign of the structure also ensures improved shock resistance to protect the disk physical failure and data loss.
Samsung 2-Tray 1 TB Spinpoint M8 is currently in mass production and will be available worldwide at a date not disclosed for an MSRP of $129.
