Want a sin offering (very) large storage capacity? Synology is here, with a model capable of 12 HDDs (currently 36 To) and expandable to 24 drives. DS2411 + is based on an Intel platform (an Atom dual core 1.8 Ghz) and includes 1 GB of RAM, with the possibility to go to 3 GB.
The casing provides two RJ45 jacks work 1 gigabit/s and - good idea - the aggregation of two harvest is possible. With a single link, the brand announce 104 MB/s to the NAS and 110 MB/s from the NAS then using two links going to 167 MB/s and 200 MB/s, high performance for this type of material. Atom requires, the announced consumption is low: 105 W according to Synology, without announcing the type of hard disk (a priori the 5,400 rpm). Note the presence of four USB ports and an Infiniband connector to connect a second housing that accepts 12 other hard drives. For hard disks, the RAID is course part, with including RAID 0, 1, 10, 5 and 6.
For the rest, the classic functions are: FTP, DLNA, server monitoring, Web server, etc. It is in Synology and firmware is very comprehensive and changes often. Remains the problem of price: approximately 1 €200. It's expensive, but the possibility of access to external data at high speed at a price.
