Optoma has presented the HD33, the first projector 1080p for system home cinema capable to display stereo image sold under $ 1,500, according to the press release. The date of marketing in Europe is still unknown, but we can imagine that the price should be the same in euros. This is a milestone in the decline in the price of this technology and its democratization.
There are already 3D compatible projectors much cheaper but they do not support the resolution 1080p so important in a home cinema system, since it's the definition commonly referred to as Full HD on Blu - ray and other high definition for the show. The price of 3D equipment is a major obstacle to the adoption of this technology, in addition to the glasses. $1,500 is not given, but it is a step in the right direction. Still need to buy sunglasses to able to synchronize with the video projector shutter. Their price is unknown, but this kind of accessory ranges from €70 to €100. The glasses are rechargeable and are connected to the projector using a communication system using radio frequencies.
The paper features appear to be correct for an entry-level system. The HD33 has a 4000: 1 contrast, which is low compared to the more expensive models. It also displays a brightness of 1800 ANSI Lumens, which is a little higher than some and that attempts to compensate for part of the contrast. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that this value is divided by two area in 3D mode. The HD33 allows to have an image of a 300 inches diagonal, which is classic. Connoisseurs will notice that its chassis is slightly wider than the HD20, famous for being one of the first $ 1,000 1080p projectors.
Optoma offers declinations above range. The HD8300 has a 30 000: 1 contrast and brightness of 1500 ANSI Lumens and a zoom 1.5 x for $4,500. HD3300 has a 5000: 1 contrast and brightness of 2000 ANSI Lumens for $1-999. They are all compatible 3D.
