A server with 384 Atom and 1 536 threads

In March, 2011, SeaMicro announced servers format 10U incorporating 512 cores Atom, with 256 processors Atom N570 (and thus 1024 usable threads simultaneously). And the company has just announced its new model, SM10000-64-HD, which uses a new format of maps and store 384 CPUs in the server. The machine contains 768 physical cores and can run 1 536 threads simultaneously, which is interesting for storage servers, and more generally the servers working on lots of data without requiring heavy treatment. Housing accepts 64 drives and 64 Ethernet links to 1 gigabit/s. Announced consumption is 3 500 w, which is logical enough: the TDP of an Atom N570 is approximately 10 W but the video portion is not used in a server. With the N570, the solution is bit - an advantage on ARM-based models - even if the Atom restricted currently to 4 GB of memory per processor and the interconnection between maps to 1 GB/s at best (the limit of four PCI-Express of NM10 lines).

Is the price: $239,000. It is high enough, even if dispose all of cores in a volume of only 10U is interesting in some cases, for cloud computing infrastructure, for example, to be sometimes used lot of clients without any high power for each client.
