The end of Windows XP in 1 000 days

About 1 000 days (995 today), Windows XP will be more supported by Microsoft. The venerable OS, released in October 2001, should have its time in 2011, but yet, it is still used on 45% of computers connected to the Internet. And on April 8, 2014, which is the (announced) date of his death. The reasons are multiple, between a Vista arrived very late to succeed him and who has not satisfied and maintained by Microsoft on netbooks to 2010, yet the system accuses his age. Indeed, the system poses problems with a lot of current technologies. On the graphic part, Windows XP does support DirectX 9 (it is at version 11) and does not support video decompression engines, which require DXVA 2.0 (and hence Vista) at least. With the DSS and the recent hard drives, Windows XP does not support GUID (and therefore restricted to 2.2), does not handle the TRIM and problems of performance with devices that use 4 KB sectors. Finally, the 64-bit system version is very perfectible and based on Windows NT 5.2, aka Windows Server 2003. Overall, Windows 7 is not really more gourmand, except on very old machines, and has a much more modern basis, without the defects of Windows Vista.

And you, are you still on Windows XP?
