Mac Gems: Disk Falcon 1.1

It is easy to see what is on your hard drive - open drive icon and you can see the content. However, the sad Cat Software Disk Falcon (Mac App Store link) uses colorful graphics and animations to show how the files occupy space on your hard disk. Disk Falcon is virtually a pony a trick; It is not really an application of utility disk, and as a generator of limited graph that uses the contents of your hard disk.

When you start first disk Falcon, the first thing you notice is the interface. Sad CAT software says that disk Falcon is based on the game used the Dawn Ultraviolet company engine. It is not a standard of the Mac user interface, and if you are a stickler for Mac UI, then you hate the disk Falcon user interface. It is not difficult to understand user interface, but the Falcon drive like an application Mac - a big problem for some purists.

Falcon drive does tell you exactly where a file resides on your hard disk. Using a pie or bar chart types, the software tells you how much space is a file or a file type in a particular directory - not the overall hard disk. For example, Falcon drive told me that my Applications folder represents 23% of the space occupied on my home directory. Drill more, and I see that the Microsoft Word application is 6% of the space in the directory that Word is.The Falcon disk detail column shows files in the directory, the file size and a percentage showing how much space that file in this directory. Click on the right border of a file in the details section, and this element is shown in the Finder, a little feature.Falcon disk allows you to remove the files through its Bin functionality. Click the bin, drag the files from the list of details in the Bin window and then click the button Delete of a file garbage. It is a convenient way to delete files, instead of having to get out in the Finder. The age chart provides an overview of the files based on a relative age. The files are grouped by days, months and years and mapped, but there is no reference to specific files.

Disk Falcon is a fun utility and creates graphs of your nice to look at hard drive data. It is not a true hard disk utility but lacks basic disk maintenance features. Although the Falcon drive works in conjunction with other disk utilities, it may be a lavish addition to your disk hard toolkit.
