Apple: first seller of smartphones

Apple is now the largest vendor of smart phones.

According to the latest study published by IDC, Apple would simply be the largest seller of smartphones in the world with not less than 20.3 million units sold in the second quarter of 2011. The Californian company is followed by Samsung and Nokia with respectively 17.3 and 16.7 smartphones sold in the same period. Behind the three tenors are RIM with its Blackberry and HTC with 12.4 and 11.7 million pieces sold in the past three months.

Apple grants so the biggest part with 20.3% share of market compared to 16.2% for Samsung and 15.7 per cent for Nokia. From the second quarter of 2010, Apple has recorded an increase of 141,7%, but the Palm of the growth is attributed to Samsung with a sales increase of 380,6% between the two periods. HTC is also a fine performance with a growth of 165,9% RIM stagnate with an increase of only 10.7% and Nokia fell by 30.4%. With the success of the Galaxy S II, Samsung seems to continue to grow while the arrival of the next iPhone to the re-entry would allow Apple to revitalize sales of iPhone.
