After a first report, the Cedar Trail Atom platform is officially unveiled by the Intel fondeur which announces its presence in electronic devices in the first quarter of 2012. This new family of processors specifically small laptops and netbooks market by promising even more autonomy.
Even if the market is declining, netbooks are still several million pieces per year and remain a key market for the range of Atom processors. Cedar Trail platform is engraved in 32 nm and handles playback of videos in 1080p and HDMI and DisplayPort connectors.
It incorporates technologies such as the Intel Wireless Display and the Intel Wireless Music to share multimedia content of the computer with other elements of the home network, but also the Intel Smart Connect that maintains a link to Internet in Eve, or the Intel Rapid Start for rapid standby output.
More than processors, are therefore of the combinations of technologies that provides Intel in Cedar Trail to bring more responsiveness without neglecting the autonomy, which should achieve 10 hours in operation and several weeks on standby.
In products in the first quarter 2012
Cedar Trail is available in processors Atom N2600 and district, associated with the NM10 Express chipset for nomadic, while Atom D2500 and D2700 processors are intended for entry-level desktop computers and configurations-all-in-one, with support of OS Windows, MeeGo and Tizen.
The functions of management of energy and rapid exit of Eve (Intel DeeperSleep and Intel SpeedStep) will allow to use this platform for vertical uses such as medical devices or point of sale terminals (PoS).
Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Toshiba are part of the manufacturers who exploit these new processors Cedar Trail by early 2012 in consumer products.
