Samsung, Sharp, Chimei, Chunghwa, Epson, Hannstar and Hitachi have agreed to pay a total of $ 553 million. An amicable agreement obtained in the United States to put an end to a survey of an unlawful agreement on the price of LCD screens.
On this amount, $ 37 million will be used to cover the costs of investigation while about 501 million will be used to repay consumers 24 States and the capital Washington who have purchased products with LCD slabs between 1999 and 2006.
The tribe will be paid by Samsung ($ 240 million), Sharp (115,5 M$) and Chimei (110,3 M$). Three other groups - to the Optronics, LG Display and Toshiba - refused the agreement. For them, the investigation continues.
A year ago, in December 2010, the European Commission had imposed a fine of EUR 650 million on Samsung, LG Display, Optronics, Chimei, Chunghwa and HannStar for illicit agreement on the prices of the LCD screen between 2001 and 2006. To have been the first to provide information to Brussels, Samsung had had nothing to pay.
