Developed by Intel, the Thunderbolt technology is studied to compete with the USB which imposes its status as standard for some years. Because of the high cost of its chips (about 20 $ piece) and the conflict generated with USB 3.0, technology Thunderbolt did not really attracted the attention of the industry when it was announced.

Apple was the first partner of the founder of Santa Clara, equipping its range of computers in catch Thunderbolt, with aims to offer relatively large transfer speeds.

Because of this massive adoption of the mark to Apple, the request met with relatively significant growth. Also, Intel is preparing to expand its technology in many media, with the help of other manufacturers for integration in motherboards, laptops and Office.

As the cost of the adoption of Thunderbolt is expected to decline in the second quarter of 2012, its adoption as a standard should be done gradually.

Currently, Sony is preparing to adopt the solution in its lines of products, but also from other manufacturers such as Asustek in his notebooks high-end. Gibabyte account also offer compatible motherboards by April 2012 to compete with Asustek and ASRock.
