S - LCD: Sony sells all its shares in Samsung

Third world player of the LCD TVs, Sony Japanese market in 2004 was associated with the first in the joint venture S-LCD for the manufacture of slabs in South Korea. Sony has finally decided to sell its shares in Samsung Electronics.


Subject to acceptance of the competent authorities, the amount of the transaction is of the order of EUR 719 million. It is expected by the end of the month of January 2012. Samsung will acquire all the shares of Sony S - LCD which will become the sole property of the South Korean. Sony and Samsung should nevertheless continue to work together on the development of LCD technology


The Sony decision comes at a time where the Group apparently decided to focus its efforts on the market of smartphones and tablets. Reuters analysis that the LCD TV market has reached a peak last year. Consumers have been full of LCD TVs and are more inclined to turn to other devices including mobile extra.
